England international Marcus Rashford was on target as his Manchester United side recorded a big win over arch rivals Liverpool to reignite their season in the Premier League. The Euro 2020 participant was the recipient of the winning goal at the end of the game involving two of the biggest teams in English football. Rashford was part of the England squad to the Euro 2020 tournament as the Three Lions finished as runners-up. It must be pointed out that the Manchester United forward has rarely featured for his country since the Euro 2020 and he would be hoping to maintain his form with the World Cup tournament in Qatar a few months away.
Liverpool were favourites ahead of the Manchester United game, but it was the Red Devils who started on the front foot. Manchester United pinned Liverpool back for the better part of the first quarter and they rewarded with the first goal of the game thanks to the composure shown by England international Jadon Sancho in front of goal. Sancho scored his first goal of the season to give Manchester United the lead off the assist from Anthony Elanga who should have been the recipient of the first goal. The Norwegian international had earlier hit the post with a good chance before he provided the assist for the goal from Sancho on 16 minutes. Rashford doubled the lead for Manchester United eight minutes into the second half before Mohamed Salah pulled one back for Liverpool with seven minutes left to play. In the end, Manchester United held on to record a 2-1 win.
With the big win over Liverpool, Manchester United move five places up the table to number 14. They were second from bottom before the game.
