Grealish remains confident of breaking into England side

Aston Villa midfielder Jack Grealish remains optimistic that he can break into the England squad following a discussion with assistant manager John Terry. The likes of Dele Alli, Jesse Lingard, Mason Mount and James Maddison have been preferred ahead of Grealish for the attacking midfield role with the Three Lions but the 24-year-old believes he can make the breakthrough ahead of next summer’s European Championship.


In a report covered by Evening Standard, Grealish acknowledged that there are a number of young players, who are currently playing in his position for the national side and he faces plenty of competition. The versatile midfielder added that he is backing himself to make the cut through a consistent run of performances in the Premier League this term.

Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos has admitted that he may retire from Germany duty following the 2020 European Championship. The 29-year-old has been a key player for club and country over the years and he appears determined to end his international career on a high by guiding the nation to Euro 2020 success next summer.

Speaking to Bild, Kroos acknowledged that winning the European Championship remains the prime target for next summer and he could thereafter consider hanging up the boots at the international level, he said: “Of course, winning the title is a big goal. Spain international Sergio Ramos has said that he would like to end the 2019/2020 season on a high by going on to lift the European Championship title at the Wembley Stadium.
